Abstract

This research is entitled An Analysis Of Indonesian–English Code-Mixing Used by Indonesian Public Figures in Twitter (A Sociolinguistic Study). It is focused to classify the type of code-mixing and the level of code-mixing used by Indonesian public figures in their Twitter accounts from January until March. The theory of Muysken (2000) is used to analyze the type of code-mixing. This research applied the descriptive qualitative method to analyze and investigate the data. From the analysis of the data, the result of this research was 153 data of code-mixing. Jerome Polin had 75 data as the most dominant people among the others. Jehian Sijabat had 65 data, and Jang Hansol only 13 data.  The data showed Jerome Polin had 56 data of insertion, 7 data of alternation, and 12 data of congruent lexicalization. Jehian Sijabat had 47 data of insertion, 7 data of alternation, and 11 data of congruent lexicalization. Jang Hansol had 11 data of insertion, 0 data of alternation, and 3 data of congruent lexicalization. In the levels of code-mixing, the word level had 91 data, phrase level 37 data, baster level 17 data, idiom level 2 data, and clause level 6 data. There are no data found for repetition level. For the details, Jerome Polin had 52 data of word level, 15 data of phrase level, 4 data of baster level, 2 data of idiom level, and 2 data of clause level. Jehian Sijabat had 32 data of word level, 18 data of phrase level, 11 data of baster level, and 4 data of clause level. The last is Jang Hansol. He had 7 data of word level, 4 data of phrase level, and 2 data of baster level. Insertion is the most dominant type of code-mixing included in Indonesian public figures' Twitter accounts from January to March. Meanwhile, the word level is the most dominant.
